How to Stop Excessive Sweating with miraDry

Conveniently located to serve New York City, Tribeca, and The Upper East Side

It’s time for us to have a conversation about something all of us deal with: sweat. Our bodies use sweating to regulate body temperature, and—with an average of three million sweat glands on the body—it’s clear that perspiration is natural. However, sweating can still be incredibly annoying. Underarm sweating in particular can be uncomfortable and unsightly, which means it’s important to find a solution that not only manages underarm sweat but delivers lasting results that can help you regain your comfort and your confidence.

Thankfully, a permanent solution does exist, and we spoke with Bill, a Tribeca MedSpa client living with excessive sweating, to discuss his firsthand experience in using miraDry. An FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment for underarm sweat, miraDry uses thermal energy to target—and eliminate—sweat and odor glands permanently, allowing underarm sweat to be dealt with once and for all.

Why choose miraDry?

“I chose miraDry because I didn’t want to use the aluminum that’s in most deodorants,” Bill explains. “I tried using several all-natural deodorants, but they didn’t work well enough.”

While other treatments for hyperhidrosis (also known as excessive sweating unrelated to heat or exercise) exist, the alternatives aren’t always ideal. Prescription-strength deodorants often contain aluminum, which some people like to avoid, and—while natural alternatives exist—they aren’t always effective.

“My hyperhidrosis wasn’t so bad that I needed to go down the Botox road,” Bill says. “It’s so expensive, and the upkeep is every four months. Plus, with Botox, about thirty percent of those treated need a second treatment to make it completely effective. In the long run, miraDry was significantly less expensive because it’s one appointment.”

So how does miraDry work?

The procedure itself is based on microwave technology, and it’s very simple. miraDry specifically targets sweat and odor glands in the underarm area to eliminate them completely—meaning you can see permanent results immediately.

During the appointment, the area will be numbed with a local anesthetic. A medical provider uses a temporary tattoo to mark the area for treatment before applying the heated device directly to the area of the skin that will be treated.

Once it’s activated, miraDry uses light suction to move the glands closer to the surface of the skin. From there, thermal heat is used to destroy the glands permanently while a cooling element helps keep your skin safe and comfortable. An iodine-based test is performed to ensure that all of the sweat glands have been eliminated. If any remain, you can book a second treatment within six months at a significantly reduced cost.

How safe is miraDry?

Extremely safe—miraDry offers immediate and effective results with minimal downtime.

“It feels like a bad sunburn after the appointment,” Bill explains. “If you want to minimize any pain or downtime, I would suggest scheduling the procedure on a Friday so you can take advantage of the weekend off. If you ice regularly and stay ahead of the pain with over the counter medication, you’ll be ready to resume normal activity a few days later.”

Is MiraDry worth it?

“Absolutely. After one treatment of miraDry, I didn’t need a second treatment,” Bill says. “I don’t have to wear deodorant anymore, and that really gave me a great peace of mind.”
