Skin Cancer Awareness Month

01 May 2016

For those of you who don’t know, today starts the beginning of Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with over two million people diagnosed annually. Although it is the most common, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

The number one cause of skin cancer is UV radiation from sun exposure. Some less common causes of skin cancer include exposure to UV radiation from tanning beds, constant exposure to X-Rays, and exposure to certain chemicals.

Below is a list of Tribeca MedSpa’s most popular sunscreens, allowing you to stay safe and healthy while having fun in the sun!

TMS Approved Sunscreen

Camille Cosmeceuticals Oil Free Sun Screen– This SPF 30 sunscreen not only protects the skin but it also hydrates with its unique formula of Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid. This quick absorbing sunscreen is oil free and fragrance free, so it won’t leave your skin clogged or feeling greasy.

PCA Weightless Protection– Like the name suggests this sunscreen is extremely lightweight and has an SPF of 45. The sunscreen is also broad-spectrum, so it protects against both UVA and UVB radiation. This sunscreen absorbs quickly and is great for all skin types, especially those with oily or acne prone skin.

SkinCeuticals Physical UV Defense– This broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 blocks and reflects the sun’s rays. It also has a universal tint, so it’s especially great for those who want light coverage or have uneven skin tone. This sunscreen is also water resistant.

MDSolarSciences Quick Dry Body Spray– This aerosol spray is especially great when on the go. This SPF 40, broad spectrum spray quickly absorbs into the skin and is water resistant for up to 80 minutes. It is also non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog the pores. It’s particularly great for restless kids waiting to jump into the ocean! Click here to view MDSolarSciences’ Mineral Sunscreen stick, which makes applying sunscreen to the face quick and easy (especially if your hands won’t be 100% clean and germ free!).

Make sure to keep up with blog posts all month long for more tips on how to prevent sun damage and keep your skin looking and feeling healthy!

The Wonders of Rose Water

02 April 2016

Roses are red, Violets are blue
Everyone needs rose water to refresh and renew!

But really, the list of rose water’s benefits goes on and on. There are so many different ways to use it, and the more I talk to people, the more I discover just how versatile this product is. Rose water is not only soothing, but it is also antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and extremely hydrating. Here’s a list of rose water’s many uses:

Daily Toner: Rose water is commonly used as a toner, directly after cleansing. Spritz some rose water on a cotton ball and wipe all over your face. This will leave the skin balanced and hydrated, while also prepping your skin for the rest of your regimen by removing any excess dirt.

Pre and Post Workout: Keep a small bottle of rose water in your workout bag. Either spray it directly on your face, our wipe your face down with a soaked cotton ball, both before and after your workout. This will cleanse your skin, preventing sweat from clogging your pores and preventing breakouts for those who have acneic skin.

Pick-Me-Up: Keep rose water in your purse as well; take it with you whenever you’re on the go. When your skin is feeling tired, dull, or dry, spray some rose water directly on your face to instantly feel refreshed. Your skin will feel rejuvenated, revitalized and hydrated. This is especially perfect during the hotter months, when were constantly out and about in the heat. Rose water’s scent is also very calming and soothing to many. Pro-Tip: Try keeping some rose water in the refrigerator. The cold mist wakes up your skin and is even more refreshing!

Combat Redness: Rose water’s anti-inflammatory property definitely comes in handy more often than you’d think. Use rose water before and after waxing or shaving to eliminate redness and to clean the area. Any other time your skin feels irritated and aggravated: rose water is the answer!

Spring Into Action

30 March 2016

Whether you’re defining “spring” as the season between winter and summer, or as a sudden leap or jump towards something, there’s no denying that these Spring months are the perfect time to revamp your life. Between cleaning out your closet, your living room, your storage unit or even that one bedside drawer you keep throwing everything into, it’s easy to forget about your skincare routine. Here are Tribeca MedSpa’s favorite ways to rejuvenate for Springtime!

Start Your Morning Off Right: One of the simplest things to do in the morning, yet somehow also the hardest, is to drink a full glass of water right when you wake up. Not only does this rehydrate your body after a good night’s sleep, but it also leaves you feeling more refreshed, boosting your body’s natural energy. Many people don’t realize that this also kick-starts your metabolism, preparing it for the rest of the day to come. Try adding some lemon to your water for even more benefits, like boosted immunity and anti-inflammation.

Rose Water: There’s no better time to start using this essential than right now. Spring’s inconsistent weather conditions can often leave skin feeling dry, clogged and dull. Rose water’s hydrating and soothing properties are perfect for this time of year, whether used as a refreshing mid-day pick-me-up or as an antibacterial toner. (Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post all about the wonders of rose water. Warning: it’s addictive!)

Antioxidant: Applying an antioxidant is one of the most commonly overlooked steps in a skin care routine, but easily one of the most important. Using a serum with Vitamin C every morning can lighten, brighten and tighten the skin. And the benefits don’t stop there. One such as SkinCeutical’s Phloretin CF will not only prevent future sun damage, but it will also help combat and correct existing damage, perfect for preparing your skin for the upcoming summer months. SkinCeutical’s CE Ferulic helps promote collagen production revealing a youthful complexion, while protecting skin from environmental aging.

Dermaplane: Dermaplane, dermaplane, dermaplane! One of our top treatments, dermaplaning, is excellent on its own or combined with other services (like a hydrating facial, laser treatment, or even a chemical peel). Dermaplaning manually exfoliates any dead skin cells and ‘peach fuzz’ on the surface of the skin, revealing a glowing, smooth complexion. Dermaplaning not only allows products to penetrate deeper, but it also aids in a more flawless application of makeup− perfect for a fresh, new you!
